🇬🇧 ENG In the framework of the project Peripheral Visions, financed under the Small Project Fund GO! 2025 of the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme 2021-2027, managed by the GECT GO, the partners IoDeposito ETS and University of Nova Gorica launch a call for artists addressed to European artists.
The project revolving around the theme of the relationship between industrial history and war history, a relationship that has determined the identity of the Italian-Slovenian cross-border area. Always considered as a “peripheral location”, crossed over the centuries by continuous wars and incursions, the cross-border area has been the site of huge investments in the branch of “war industries” that were meant to serve border militarization.
These industries then gradually withdrew following the world conflicts, the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Balkan conflict, leaving the area impoverished of job opportunities and resulting in massive forced migrations. A history that is “chiaro- scuro”: made up of natural and social exploitation of the territory for war purposes, made up of industrial disinvestment but also made up of resilience and multiculturalism, a history that is reflected in the aesthetics of a border territory punctuated and re-written by the presence of industrial archeologies and sacred burial sites.
The project aims to jointly enhance the wartime-industrial identity of the area and the heritage of industrial archaeology, creating expertise for the area’s artists and creatives, students and youth, businesses and local administrators.
